Reading and Walking the Trail

Blogger of the day:  Jazlyn

Today we had a Halloween celebration.  We read books had snacks and it was lots of fun.  We walked around the pond and skipped for reading and walking the Trail.  It was the best day ever.

Reminders for Monday:  Orange and Black Day
                                        Bring your library books back
                                        Study for Science Test

Study guide for soil unit:

Make sure you know -
1.  Inorganic and organic matter - a definition and examples of each
2.  Humus - a definition
3.  Things you will find using a microscope in soil
4.  The 3 different types of soil, their colours, textures, and where they would be found
5.  Be able to describe how each type of soil is able to absorb water and how the particles are arranged differently (ie.  sand is loose with lots of space in between)
6.  How plants help soil and how soil helps plants
7.  Erosion - what is it and what causes it
8.  How erosion can be prevented

On Wednesday, we had a houseleague assembly to show our school spirit and cheer on our houseleague teams.   Which team will win the houseleague cup this year?

We had a beautiful day for our Reading and Walking the Trail fundraiser.  Guest readers, skipping, dancing, walking the pond and of course - reading!  Thank you for your donation or for helping your children get pledges.  Last year's money went towards buying books for classroom libraries.  This year, the money will go to pay for classroom supplies and field trips.

Websites

The kids may be tired of writing out or practising their multiplication facts.  Check out these sites for some more engaging ways to practise.

Kids can also check out the "Books and Comics" section to read the web versions of books like "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or "Amelia's Notebook."  We have modelled our own writer's notebooks after Amelia's.

A big Shazam to all my 3Awesome students!  Happy Weekend!

Previewing Books and Minute to Winit on Friday afternoon

Our class enjoyed previewing the new books that Mrs. Piazza and Mr. Rinaldi-Ross bought us with last year's walkathon money.   The question is:  "Where will we put our new books?"  Our shelves are already so full!!!

We also laughed like crazy playing this week's challenge called "On the Nose."  Congratulations to the team of Katie, Sehaj, Dimitri and Omar.  They transported a team total of 26 cotton balls using vaseline on their noses!
