3A students have just completed their first Internet-based assignment on a comic program called Bitstrips.   For this assignment, students had to create avatars (internet characters of themselves) and introduce themselves.  Click on this website to see what the class created.  The students enjoyed writing using a different format and look forward to creating more stories on this website.

http://www.bitstripsforschools.com/login/  (Code: Ttrail, password:  your child's first name)

If you do not see a comic for your child, he/she has not completed the assignment and needs to submit one next week.  Have a great weekend!

Thank you,

Mrs. Allison

Every once in awhile, the kids get what we call a "brain break."  They get up, dance or move around.  After, they are refreshed and ready to learn again.

Today was Wacky Hair Day.

Congratulations to our "self-disciplined" students of the month.  I know I can always count on these two ladies to make good choices.

Today's Guest:  Mike Neuts

Today, we had a guest speaker named Mike Neuts speak to us about bullying.  Mike Neuts is the father of a young boy named Myles who died a few years ago due to a bullying incident.   The children were very touched and saddened by his story.  They have been given a chance to discuss and write about the information that he shared today, but some students may wish to discuss it further at home.

Parents, we have this saying on our white board and the kids read it every day.  Take some time to remind your child:  "You are smart.  You are kind.  You are important."

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy time with your families!

Mrs. Allison

January News

Happy New Year to all the 3A students and families!   The students came back refreshed and ready to learn.  Here are some goals that they would like to share with you for 2012.

January Curriculum

Math:  We will be finishing up our Number Sense Unit on Addition and Subtraction.  The unit test will be on Wednesday, January 18.  We will then move on to Geometry.

Literacy:  We have started a novel study called The Miraculous Adventures of Edward Tulane by Kate Dicamillo.  It is a story about a cold-hearted and proud toy rabbit who loves only himself until he is separated from the little girl who adores him.  He travels across the country, acquiring new owners and listens to their hopes, dreams and histories.

I feel that the students are ready for many of the themes that we will be exploring.  Your child may wish to discuss some of the themes in the story such as:  love, gratitude and death.  From time to time, I will post some questions to spark the discussions at home.

This month, we will read persuasive texts and students will use them as models to write their own persuasive text.   Watch out, you may get a convincing letter about why you should buy your child a dog!

Science:  In Science, we will continue with our unit on Force and Motion

Reminders:  Friday, January 20 is a Professional Development Day.  Please do not send your child to school.

I will continue to blog each week so be sure to check in for updates.  Have a wonderful month!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Allison
